Applications

Built for the jobs where cost, cycle life and safety decide the purchase

Aqueous zinc-ion cells are heavier per kilowatt-hour than lithium-ion. That matters enormously in a phone and not at all in a box bolted to a wall. These are the applications where the trade lands in our favour.

    Residential solar storage

    Beachhead market

Behind-the-meter home batteries paired with rooftop solar. Australia's Cheaper Home Batteries Program has driven roughly half a million installations in a year, with 77% of uptake in regional and outer-suburban areas - larger homes, more roof space, higher consumption, and no shortage of room for a battery.

Cost, cycle life and safety are what decide the purchase. Weight and volume are not.

  • 02

    Community and commercial-scale storage

Mid-scale shared and commercial systems, sited at the edge of the network or behind a single large meter.

The payback calculation is dominated by upfront cost per kilowatt-hour - the variable this chemistry moves most.

  • 03

    Grid-scale stationary storage

Large installations feeding load balancing, demand response and renewable integration.

Non-flammable chemistry removes fire separation, suppression and insurance overheads entirely.

  • 04

    Remote, off-grid and microgrid power

Remote communities and off-grid sites, including microgrids powered by renewable sources - an application Dr Kundu names specifically.

A battery that tolerates ambient conditions without active cooling, and cannot start a fire, is worth more than one that stores more per kilogram.

  • 05

    Industrial and telecommunications backup

Data centre and industrial backup power, mining, construction and telecommunications sites.

The high discharge rate suits short-duration backup duty.

“The AZB technology can be implemented as energy storage systems at various scales, from small-scale residential and commercial and medium-scale community storage units to large-scale grid-level installations.”
